UGANDA PRIMATE SAFARI: GORILLAS, CHIMPANZEES & RIFT VALLEY LANDSCAPES
A journey through rainforest habitats in search of gorillas, chimpanzees, and Uganda’s remarkable wildlife
Uganda’s landscapes unfold as a remarkable mosaic of rainforest, crater lakes, savannah plains and fertile highlands. This immersive overland safari reveals the country’s extraordinary biodiversity while bringing travelers face-to-face with two of Africa’s most fascinating primates: mountain gorillas and chimpanzees.
Beginning in Kampala, the journey travels south through the heart of the country toward the tranquil waters of Lake Bunyonyi, a highland lake surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with dozens of small islands. From here, guests venture into the mist-covered forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that shelters nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
The experience continues northward through Uganda’s Rift Valley landscapes to Kalinzu Forest Reserve, where guided treks reveal families of chimpanzees moving through the canopy. Along the way, encounters with local communities, scenic tea plantations and vibrant market towns provide insight into Uganda’s culture and daily life.
The journey concludes near the headwaters of the Nile River in Jinja, widely known as the adventure capital of East Africa, before returning to Kampala. Throughout the expedition, the focus remains on authentic wildlife encounters, immersive landscapes and the extraordinary ecosystems that define Uganda.
