Overview

This journey traces a remarkable route through southern Africa, connecting some of the region’s most diverse landscapes, from the powerful waters of Victoria Falls to the wildlife-rich wetlands of the Okavango Delta and the arid horizons of the Kalahari Desert.

Beginning in Victoria Falls, one of the world’s great natural wonders, the route quickly moves into Botswana, where river ecosystems and open savannas support extraordinary concentrations of wildlife. The journey continues toward the Okavango Delta, one of the most unique inland wetlands on Earth, where traditional mokoro canoes glide silently through reed-lined channels and wildlife thrives within a delicate water-based ecosystem.

Beyond the Delta, the landscapes shift again as the journey enters the Kalahari region, where encounters with San communities provide a rare opportunity to learn about ancient survival traditions in one of the world’s most challenging environments.

The expedition concludes in Namibia’s capital city of Windhoek, linking together three remarkable countries and a spectrum of landscapes that define southern Africa, from waterfalls and wetlands to desert cultures and remote wilderness.

Day 01

Victoria Falls

VICTORIA FALLS | ARRIVAL AND INTRODUCTION

Victoria Falls

Arrive in Livingstone, set along the banks of the Zambezi River and long regarded as Zambia’s gateway to the falls. After transferring to your lodge, the remainder of the day is left open to rest or gently explore the town’s cultural character. Livingstone offers a relaxed introduction to the country, with its local markets, museums, and riverside atmosphere providing early context for the journey ahead.

Kasane

VICTORIA FALLS TO KASANE | INTO BOTSWANA

Kasane

Depart Victoria Falls and travel south toward the Botswana border. After crossing into Botswana at Kazungula, continue to Kasane, a small town located at the edge of Chobe National Park. This region is renowned for its exceptional elephant population and river ecosystems that attract large numbers of wildlife. In the evening, there is the option to join a sunset cruise along the Chobe River, where elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species gather along the water’s edge.

KASANE TO NATA | EDGE OF THE MAKGADIKGADI

The morning offers the opportunity to explore Chobe National Park on an optional early safari drive. Open safari vehicles travel along routes overlooking the Chobe River, where wildlife congregates throughout the day. Later, depart Kasane and journey south through Botswana’s wide landscapes toward the town of Nata. Upon arrival, the lodge environment offers a relaxing setting where elephants are sometimes seen approaching nearby watering holes while guests unwind by the pool or enjoy sunset views from the lodge terrace.

Continue across Botswana’s central plains toward Maun, the principal town serving the Okavango Delta region. This small frontier town acts as the logistical gateway to one of Africa’s most remarkable ecosystems. The afternoon is reserved for preparing for the upcoming Delta excursion and gathering any supplies needed before heading deeper into the wilderness the following day.

OKAVANGO DELTA

Today marks the beginning of an immersive journey into the Okavango Delta. Travel by 4x4 safari vehicle deep into the Sankoyo Concession before reaching the Delta’s waterways. From there, board traditional mokoro canoes steered by experienced local polers who navigate the narrow channels with remarkable precision. The journey continues into a remote bush camp, where the surrounding wetlands host birdlife, antelope, and numerous smaller wildlife species. During the day, guided walking safaris introduce the Delta from a ground-level perspective, offering insight into plant life, animal tracks, and the subtleties of the ecosystem. As night falls, gather around the campfire beneath expansive star-filled skies before enjoying a traditional Tswana dance performance led by the local polers.

GHANZI

OKAVANGO DELTA TO GHANZI | KALAHARI CULTURES

After sunrise in the Delta, return by mokoro and 4x4 to Maun before continuing west across the northern edge of the Kalahari Desert toward Ghanzi. Here, a guided walk with San Bushmen introduces the remarkable survival knowledge developed by the San people over thousands of years in the desert environment. During the walk, guides share insights into plant uses, tracking techniques, and traditional ways of life adapted to the Kalahari’s harsh conditions. The evening is spent at a community-run lodge, where visitors gain a deeper understanding of San culture and history through stories shared around the fire.

WINDHOEK

GHANZI TO WINDHOEK | INTO NAMIBIA

Depart Botswana and travel west into Namibia, crossing the border at Buitepos before continuing through the open landscapes of eastern Namibia. The journey concludes in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital city, where European architectural influences blend with African culture in a relaxed urban environment.
